Helga

25-09-26 Helga is a wonderful lady who originally came to us a while ago and was adopted into a loving home, where she spent several happy years. Sadly, she has now returned to our care as it wasn't the right long-term match for her needs, and she is looking for a new home that understands her and can give her the life she deserves.

Helga generally mixes well with other dogs, but she can be quite selective about who she likes and can be unpredictable around certain dogs. For this reason, she will need to be the only dog in her new home, and her adopters will need previous experience with reactive dogs and an understanding of how to manage her around other dogs when out and about. She cannot live with cats or small furries.

When it comes to people, Helga is a complete big baby! She doesn't quite understand her size (47kg!) and loves nothing more than getting as close to you as possible, and will use your legs as her very own leaning post while she soaks up all the fuss. She has quickly become a favourite with everyone she meets and is such a lovely girl to have around. Despite her size, she has a lovely, calm temperament with people and is incredibly affectionate once she knows you.

She is an outgoing lady that would love to go on plenty of quiet adventures where she can enjoy the outdoors in peace. However, she can also be a lazy lady, and would love a home where she can enjoy being a couch potato.

Helga can live with sensible, dog-savvy older teenagers aged 13+ who understand her needs and will treat her with kindness and respect. Due to her size and strength, she can be quite strong on the lead, so any children in the home should not be responsible for walking her, as she could potentially overpower them if she reacts or becomes excited while out.

Having already lived in a home for several years, Helga understands the basics of home life and is house trained. However, her adopters should be prepared to give her a little patience and some gentle reminders while she settles back into a new routine. Moving home can be a big change, and we want Helga to have the time she needs to feel comfortable and secure again.

Helga is an amazing lady who has so much love to give. She does have some specific needs, but for the right person who understands her and is experienced with reactive dogs, she could be a wonderful companion. She just needs someone willing to look past her quirks, understand what makes her tick and give her the chance to find the right forever home.

Helga has arrived overweight and is now on a diet to help her back to a healthy weight. Her back legs seem to be affected by this and she is now on joint supplements to help her joints as she continues to lose the weight.
